🔍 Troubleshooting & Care FAQ
Why is my candle “tunneling” (burning down the center)?
If your candle is burning straight down the middle and leaving a thick ring of hard wax along the edges, it is experiencing “tunneling.” This usually happens if the candle wasn’t burned long enough on its very first light. Candles have a wax memory—the path it clears on the first burn dictates how it will melt every time after.
- The Fix: Give your candle a “reset burn” by wrapping a piece of aluminum foil around the top edge like a dome, leaving a small opening in the center for the flame. Burn it safely for 2 to 3 hours until the edge wax completely melts into an even pool.
Why is there black soot on the inside of my jar?
A small amount of soot can happen, but heavy black buildup is typically a sign of an untrimmed wick or a draft. When a wick gets too long, it consumes wax faster than it can burn it, causing an unstable, flickering flame that produces soot.
- The Fix: Always trim your wick to 1/4 inch before every single light. Also, ensure your candle is placed away from ceiling fans, air conditioners, open windows, or heavy foot traffic areas. You can easily wipe away existing soot with a damp paper towel once the wax is completely cool.
Why does my candle have a rough, bumpy top after burning?
If you notice the surface of your candle looks rough, pitted, or bumpy once it cools down after a burn, do not worry! This is a natural characteristic of 100% clean, eco-friendly soy wax blends. It happens because natural wax cools at slightly different rates, and it is the ultimate proof that your candle is free from synthetic paraffin additives. It will not affect the scent or performance of your candle at all.
Why do my wax melts have a white, crystalline look?
You might notice a white, chalky, or crystalline film forming on your wax melts or sachets over time. This is called “frosting” and is a completely normal, natural habit of soy wax as it ages and stabilizes. It is a visual trait only and does not impact the quality, melt rate, or strength of your fragrance.
How do I safely clean out my container once the wax is gone?
We design our beautiful containers to be completely reusable! When you have about 1/2 inch of wax left, discontinue burning the candle.
- The Fix: Carefully pour hot (not boiling) water into the container to let the remaining wax melt and float to the top. Once the water cools completely, the wax will harden into a solid disc at the top that you can easily pop out. Wash the vessel gently with warm, soapy water, and it’s ready to hold pens, makeup brushes, crystals, or small plants!
